Chapter 2

July 31, 2017          I got off the plane in Miami with absolutely no word from my mom since the phone call she gave me 4 days ago. The two flights back were almost as painful as these next couple of days will be. In no way am I expecting anyone to be at baggage claim when I get there; this way it’s eases the blow when it’s actually true. I walk through the airport, a place I’ve grown to hate. Airports are filled with happy families traveling to Mexico, stern business pricks traveling across the country just for a damn meeting, and then sorry loner like me. Everyone with their own shit, just trying to make it from point A to point B in one piece. I don’t know everyone knowing my shit either, that’s I don’t wear my uniform when I travel. Yeah, a lot of stuck up dicks do because they think it gets them girls. If that’s the girl you want, then go right ahead. Don’t come up and thank me for my service, I haven’t done a god damn thing. ...

Chapter 1

July 27, 2017             The first time I hear from my mom in years, she tells me that Eric is dead. I don’t care that she’s neglected me for the better half of my young adult life and I don’t care that this is the only reason she’s reached out to me. All I care about is my now deceased brother. She was extremely vague on the phone and didn’t give me any information other than that it was no one’s fault but his own. All of the questions that follow the death of a seemingly happy 26-year-old flood my mind. Eric didn’t seem unhappy at all, at least when he talked to me he didn’t…when he talked to me.             The army has to give me emergency leave so I can go home for the service. Home is a loose term at this point. I feel as though the majority of my teenage years have been spent moving from place to place because that seemed to be the answer to all of my family’s p...

Sam's Story

Hello readers! For the next couple months or so, I'm going to be switching up the blog a bit. Instead of the usual poetry I throw up on here, I'm going to start posting chapter's of my book that tells Sam's story. Each week I'll put up a new chapter and you can find the updates on my Pinterest board. There's a specific pin (link below) where you can follow along and find the direct link to the posts! https://www.pinterest.com/gdamics53/my-words-poetry-blog/ So a little background on the story...I've been conceptualizing this story for quite some time and have been having trouble actually putting it into words. It's semi based on a true story and semi based on what I've come up with in my head. I think that by committing to post a chapter on a weekly basis, it will keep me actively writing, while also breaking up the length of the story. (This is more for me...oops) While not giving away too much, Sam is a kid in his 20's that was force...

Social

When you think about it, life is a lot like Instagram Notification: Sarah shared a new picture! Caption: Dream as if you’ll live forever Inspiring words… But really, Instagram is a lot like life Follow the people you like, unfollow the ones you don’t, block the creepy guys that would shout from across the street, “Hey baby lemme see that sepia toned ass.” We rely on an app that we open for validation but leave from with deflation You scroll through pictures of empty faces and pleading eyes Sorority sisters smile about slimming waistlines Frat bro’s fraternize with their ability to feel invincible The lonely kid from high school posts another landscape because he doesn’t feel he’s good enough to be on the other side of the lens That girl you never really talk to posts a picture of a tree by the quarry because you know she’s fallen into a pit and needs help but you’ll be damned if that’s your problem…you just like it and keep scrolling. The...

Oceans Apart

He recognized himself in a pool at his feet. Formed by the very oceans his eyes created from a single thought. He started to drift into the waves crashing his heart He bent over to wipe away the reality Knowing it was only a mere reflection of his imagination. His heart ran wild like a beast running from its predator Unable to keep up, he let it run. He circles like the moon always one face towards the light always one face towards the darkness For now He sits lifeless bottle to his lips eyes to the sky wandering for answers. He knows not of anything or anyone capable of saving him but his own heart, that is nowhere to be found but in the one ocean of tears created by the one thought crossing through mind.
